Lakers vs Mavericks:
face off to determine who deserves to return to the podium. The Mavericks are owned by eccentric businessman Mark Cuban, who many credit with bringing a title to Dallas . Few owners are so hands on in their approach, but it seems to have worked for the billionaire who loves his team and isn't afraid to show it. He's at almost every game courtside, and will be the first one to let you know if there is something going on in the game that he doesn't like.
The Mavericks have moved their line-up around a bit since their championship, but the core of Dirk Nowitzki remains the same. The 7-foot tall German is known for taking nearly impossible shots, yet putting the ball throw the hoop without it coming close to the rim. Skill like this is rare, and Dirk still has a number of good years in him, which Cuban is counting on. Vince Carter has turned into a reliable veteran, and since accepting more of a supporting role, has seen a resurgence of his game and playing time. He's the kind of guy that can still go for 40 if he gets hot, so you don't want to let him get going. New editions Elton Brand and Delonte West will make things interesting, and should help bring new life to the Mavericks team.
The Lakers have made some off season moves as well. They have added two of the most skilled players at their positions to an already talented team. Steve Nash has left Phoenix and will be holding down the point guard spot for the Lakers, while Superman himself Dwight Howard will be anchoring the middle along with skillful big man Pau Gasol. Add Kobe Bryant, Meta World Peace and Antawn Jamison to the mix, and suddenly it appears as though an all-star team is playing in LA. It will be tough for any team to try and match up at all the positions, and the Mavericks will have their hands full trying to do so. It's going to be tough to decide who to guard. Do you focus on an amazing point guard and maybe the best scorer of all time or do you try to box out two of the league's premier rebounders?
