Lakers Win Battle of Los Angeles In 97-88 Win Over Clippers

In the battle for Los Angeles, the Lakers proved once again that Showtime is not over as the team beat its rival Clippers 97-88 on Saturday night. The win was sparked by Kobe Bryant, who scored 29 points while making 11 of his 23 shots, and it is the second time in 10 days the Lakers beat the Clippers.

Saturday's game was not like the the teams' first meeting. The Lakers (11-5) won that game, 105-101, but the contest was close most of the night, but Bryant's 40-point performance was too much for the Clippers. But the Lakers stuck to a balance attack on Saturday to pick up a relatively easy win.

The Clippers (7-8) jumped out to an early lead when Corey Magette scored the final four points in the first quarter, giving his team a 22-20 advantage. The second quarter was all Lakers as they outscored their opponent by 10 points. Bryant and Lamar Odom had six points apiece in the quarter and Vladimir Radmanovic added five.

The early part of the second half saw the Clippers cut the lead to one point, but Bryant took over the game quickly thereafter. He scored nine points in the third quarter's final seven minutes to give the Lakers a comfortable lead which the Clippers could never erase.

The Clippers downfall was thei shooting woes. The team only shot 43 percent, compared to the Lakers' 50 percent. Their two big stars, Sam Cassell and Elton Brand, were mediocre at best. Brand finished with 17 points and Cassell had 16.

The Clippers are below.500 following Saturday's loss and are struggling to find themselves. Even worse, the Lakers have hit a stride are now leading the division.

The Lakers demise has been greatly exaggerated, but so has the Clippers rise.
