Kobe Bryant

Why we like him? Kobe Bryant is amazing to watch. Sure Larry Bird-style players are great to watch too, but who gets us off our chair more? Maybe it's just because we miss Michael Jordan.

why is Kobe Bryant famous? Kobe Bryant is one the NBA's biggest talents. Bryant is a guard for the Los Angeles Lakers and played a huge role in the Lakers' 2000, 2001 and 2002 NBA Championships.

Bryant is the kind of young athlete that everyone knew was going to be a superstar one day. And if you had any doubts, Kobe sure didn't. Kobe Bryant had his destiny to stardom planned out a long time ago.

For a while, the Los Angeles Laker seemed to be another draft bust, after causing a storm of controversy when Kobe Bryant chose to forgo college to turn pro. Kobe Bryant was then drafted 13th overall by the Charlotte Hornets who then shipped him to Los Angeles for Vlade Divac, where the Kobe Bryant hype and expectation levels only rose more.

Kobe Bryant handled it all in stride, showing only the occasional lack of maturity, a considerable feat since Kobe Bryant was the youngest player ever in the NBA. After coming into his own, Kobe Bryant, alongside Shaquille O'Neal, helped guide the Los Angeles Lakers to the NBA Championships in 2000, 2001 and 2002.

After seven years in the league, Kobe Bryant is a seasoned veteran, and likely to win a scoring title very soon. The label of him being the next Michael Jordan has been passed onto Vince Carter, but the comparisons are unlikely to stop. Kobe Bryant (already an NBA All-Star game regular) surely doesn't mind because Kobe Bryant's being compared to the best.

Kobe Bryant rode on his talent for a while... Bryant's considerable talent. Now, Kobe Bryant has come to realize that talent without brains doesn't go far. No one can deny Bryant is one of the flashiest players in the NBA, especially after winning the 1997 Slam Dunk Contest, but what most fans don't realize is how proficient Kobe Bryant is defensively (causing more comparisons to Jordan).

Kobe Bryant basketball pedigree shouldn't be a surprise, after all, Kobe Bryant father played in the NBA for years, and gave Kobe Bryant a basketball as soon as Kobe Bryant was able to stand up straight. Evidence that Bryant has progressed as a player is only a stats sheet away. In Kobe Bryant rookie season, Bryant averaged 7.5 points per game, and has since raised that average to 30.0 in the 2002-2003 season.

It's no surprise that Bryant has many female admirers, but Kobe Bryant is currently married to Vanessa Laine. The couple met on the set of a music video, where Laine was a background dancer, and they exchanged vows on April 18th, 2001 (Kobe Bryant was 22, Vanessa 18).

Usually we mention that a star athlete needs a championship to really be accomplished. Well, Kobe Bryant has three, and that's good enough for us. If you want more on what Bryant has done, read Kobe Bryant Bryant biography.

One of the NBA's most promising stars, Kobe Bryant has been making headlines due to rape allegations. Currently involved in preliminary hearings, it might be a long season for Bryant.

Kobe Bryant was raised in Italy for a while, which gave him a world view and exposure to a culture that made him a true all-around athlete. One of the coolest players in the NBA, it's no surprise that Kobe Bryant is a marketable guy (although many of Kobe Bryant endorsements are now in question due to the dark cloud hovering above Bryant's reputation).

Kobe Bryant's style is urban and flashy. Kobe Bryant dressed like a FUBU model early on in Kobe Bryant career, but Kobe Bryant is starting to follow in Michael Jordan's fashionable footsteps, as seen onthe cover of Forbes, when Bryant was decked out in Armani. Whether stepping out for an awards ceremony or a more casual affair, Bryant always knows how to dress for the occasion.

A one-on-one contest between Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant. Hey, make it a game of 21.

quote "It doesn't matter who we play against, we're goin' in there to wreck shop." -Kobe Bryant bio

Kobe Bryant was born August 23rd, 1978, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The son of famed NBA star Joe "Jellybean" Bryant (of 76ers, Clippers and Rockets fame), Kobe Bryant has two older sisters, Sharia and Shaya. If Kobe Bryant Bryant given name sounds familiar, it may be because Kobe Bryant was named after a type of steak, which was seen on a menu before Kobe Bryant birth.

Trivia: Who did the Hornets trade for Kobe Bryant? The Hornets then traded Kobe Bryant to the Los Angeles Lakers, in exchange for center Vlade Divac. As the youngest NBA player to ever debut in the league at the time (at 18 years old), Bryant set a new record at the 1997 Rookie Game, with 31 points and 8 rebounds. Bryant also slam-dunked Kobe Bryant way during the 1997 NBA All-Star Weekend, by winning the Slam Dunk Championship.

During the 1998 All-Star Game, Bryant was voted a starter, making him another history-making player, as the youngest All-Star player in the NBA. During Kobe Bryant third season, Bryant averaged almost 20 points per game, underscoring Kobe Bryant reputation as one of the team's -- and even the league's -- most electrifying, all-around players (we'll leave the slam-dunk honors to Vince Carter).

honors and rivals

As an all-around player, Kobe Bryant was the only player of Kobe Bryant team to start all 50 games of the 1998-1999 season.

The LA Lakers may have won the 2000, 2001 and 2002 NBA Finals thanks to a team effort, but it's clear that Bryant stands in the tall shadows of the Lakers' star player, Shaq.

Donning a #8 on Kobe Bryant jersey, Bryant leads in almost every statistical category of Kobe Bryant team, and it's more than likely that the Lakers' second star player will soon reach the top of Kobe Bryant game, making history along the way.

Unfortunately for Bryant, Kobe Bryant is currently being accused of raping a 19-year-old hotel employee in Eagle, Colorado. Whether or not a trial will ensue is up in the air, as are Bryant's endorsements. One of Kobe Bryant biggest sponsors, Coca-Cola (the Sprite ads have been passed over to LeBron James), has decided to terminate its contract with Kobe Bryant. But Kobe Bryant wife of two years, Vanessa Laine, is standing by Kobe Bryant side (despite Kobe Bryant affair), as are Kobe Bryant Laker teammates.
