By far the hottest headline so far this NBA offseason is the insane sign and trade the Lakers have made for Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash. In past years Steve Nash was viewed as one the Lakers biggest rivals with tons of heated battles between the two teams. Now the Lakers were able put that all aside and acquire one of the best point guards since their very own Magic Johnson. Yet now the question on everyone’s mind is…
How is this offense going to run?
Are we still going to see Kobe taking the ball up the court or will that now be on Nash? With this allow Kobe to step back from running the entire offense and become more of a traditional jump shooter? And what about the big men, Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol? Will there be more pick and rolls? Will Nash be able to get Gasol more involved in the offense this season?
I think with all those questions it’s a big resounding Y-E-S!
With the shift in power seemingly making its way over to the Eastern conference, it is great to see the Lakers make this immediately throwing their names back to the top of the charts as the team to beat. Nash is going to come in right away and help this team as whole, as that has been pretty much what he’s been doing his entire career. He is going to come in and take the load of Kobe and definitely help him get open and better looks. And as he’s proven in Phoenix with players like Shaq and other big men, he will perfectly utilize two of the best big guys in the game.
It is insane to think how one acquisition can change up an entire offense for the better, but that’s exactly what the Lakers did. It will be very exciting to watch.
